Rebekka King
Bio: Dr. Rebekka King (she/her) is a Professor of Religious Studies at Middle Tennessee State University and the author of The New Heretics: Skepticism, Secularism, and Progressive Christianity (NYU Press, 2023). Drawing from three years of ethnographic fieldwork conducted in Canada, this book focuses on testimonies of deconversion, collective reading practices, and the ways in which religious beliefs and practices are adapted to fit secular lives.
King is the past President of the North American Association for the Study of Religion and has published several articles and book chapters on the role of religion in contemporary society. She has also edited two academic volumes: Key Categories in the Study of Religion (Equinox, 2022) and Representing Religion in Film (co-edited with Tenzan Eaghll, Bloomsbury, 2022). She divides her time between Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and her home outside of Ottawa, Ontario (Canada).
