Sounds of Hope
Bio: Singer/songwriter/producer/educator/life-long learner Mary Shapiro was raised Catholic with a Jewish father. She founded Sounds of Hope in Washington, DC in 2002 to create connections & peace through music, education & service. Inspired by gospel, folk, rock & soul, Mary’s music is described as “healing political pop” & “folk with new life that “transforms any gathering into something sacred.” She's played in Japan, Israel, Palestine, written songs with Little Friends for Peace in DC & was the stage manager for A Place to Be (Therapeutic Arts Programs, Middleburg, VA). When Mary's mom had dementia, the power of music helped with healing and making connections, inspiring Mary to become a Certified Music Practitioner. Originally from MN, Mary is at home at Stillwaters, 12 acres on a lake with 2 labyrinths, great blue herons, fox, geese, deer, a dog Rosie and a husband drummer engineer of a residential recording studio 15 minutes from the AT & 50 miles from DC (in VA).
