Michael Smith
Bio: Michael continues a life-time of personal learning and transformation. Working internationally and in ecumenical and inter-faith contexts led him beyond the social and religious culture of his deep-south roots.
After seminary and a brief ministry in Georgia, Michael spent 23 years with an Indianapolis-based Christian mission. Following 3 ½ years in western Ethiopia, then 7 years in Java Indonesia, he spent his final 10 years with CMF as the executive director.
He then taught contextual theology in seminary for 5 ½ years before becoming the COO for a health-focused international relief and development agency. Before retiring in 2017, he served as a development officer for Bread for the World, a DC-based agency working to end hunger in the U.S. and globally.
Jubilee Community, a creation-spirituality community in Asheville, NC is his spiritual home. Michael is a long-time enthusiastic Goose participant.
