Introduction to Social Presencing Theatre: From Individual Stuck to Group Stuck
Time: Sat 3:00PM
Venue: Workshop
Style: Experiential
Content Type: theater-based practice for systems change
Description: Social Presencing Theater (SPT) is an awareness-based systems change methodology. SPT helps make systems visible through shared embodied experiences. In this introduction, we practice tapping into our own individual embodied wisdom through an exercise called Stuck. During Stuck, we individually embody a situation in which we personally feel stuck (Structure 1). Participants are invited to use body mindfulness and awareness to move to a new embodied form or shape, not based on preconceived notions, manipulation, or forced thinking, but simply moving, letting the body lead. We take note of what shifts are happening and what is surfacing as we move to this second shape of an emerging future reality (Structure 2). We reflect on the two states (Structure 1 and 2) and the movement in between. Through reflection, we gain insight into our situation and possible steps for future action. In Group Stuck, group members are invited to embody different forces in an individual’s Stuck (Sculpture 1). The group will practice collective embodied sensing moving towards a new group formation (Sculpture 2). We will reflect to see what insights the individual can take away from the group transformation journey. This will prepare us for SPT Part II at the festival.
