Craving Connection: A Discussion about Finding Belonging and the Future of Faith Communities

You are viewing a previous festival year: 2024
Description: In the face of a crisis in social connection plaguing the United States, the need for meaningful community and a sense of belonging has never been more evident. This discussion seeks to explore diverse experiences of those actively seeking community, individuals disillusioned with traditional church structures, and those who have left faith communities but either have a desire to return or have already returned. The backdrop of increasing segregation and polarization in the U.S. creates challenges for individuals to connect and find community across lines of difference. This discussion aims to provide a safe and open space for participants to share their perspectives, experiences, and aspirations for finding a sense of belonging in faith communities, acknowledging that the enduring human need for social connections has the power to bring us together to heal, grow, and strengthen ourselves and our communities. Here are some questions we will explore: Discussion Questions: - Are you seeking a faith community, and if so, what is most important to you in this community? - If you have left the church or a faith community, would you return? Under what circumstances? - Have you returned to a church (or faith community) after leaving? What drew you back? - Are you part of a thriving, supportive, welcoming faith community, and what do you love about it?
