Discerning the Holy Spirit in Mysticism & Activism

Description: Finding your vocation within the Church & within life is one of the most important spiritual pursuits you can pursue. So often we receive callings– but how can we know if these signs are from God? And what do we do once we have discerned that these signs are from God even when they go “against the grain”? What does it mean to be subversive in one’s faith? What does it mean to experience spiritual consolation and desolation? How do we know what spaces are healthy for us to express ourselves? What are we called to do? In this presentation, I would share my journey in creating my online ministry, the HippieCatholic and how social media can be a tool for collective discernment & connection. Since the beginning of my ministry, I’ve received criticism arguing that there’s “no such thing” as a “Hippie Catholic”, but I believe that I have been called by God to create this ministry. This has been a journey that has led me through bumpy roads and across deserts, but I have found peace in following what I believe God has called me to do. Sometimes God calls us to subvert preconceived narratives and in doing so, we show our obedience to Him. Together we will explore the everyday mysticism of spiritual discernment and share tools that can help you on your walk towards God! I’m inspired by the mysticism of Dorothy Day, St Therese of Lisieux, St. Gemma Galgani, St Faustina, St Teresa of Avila, St Ignatius, St Francis & St Joan of Arc!
