The Role of Human Connection in Deconstruction and the Exvangelical Experience: The Ties That Fray and The Ties That Bind
Time: Fri 11:00AM
Venue: Living Room
Style: Conversation
Content Type: book reading and discussion
Description: Interview by Ray Waters -
In this session, I will draw from my new book, The Exvangelicals: Loving, Living, and Leaving the White Evangelical Church, to explore the role of love and human connection in the deconstruction process, and the impact of deconstruction on close relationships. I’ll discuss how love for my gay grandfather, and for friends outside of my evangelical community, pushed me to ask questions and reconsider several aspects of my faith. I’ll also draw from the interviews I’ve conducted with dozens of other exvangelicals and experts to explore the role of relationships in the deconstruction process, and the ways in which people who are rethinking their faith can maintain and foster new types of connections. I'll include a couple of short readings from my book and type for questions and conversation.
